Position: Baking Assistant

 

Orange & Blossom is growing and we are looking for an experienced, passionate, part-time pastry assistant to join our small team in our inner NE Portland kitchen. 

 

Current Shifts:

Thursday/Friday/Sat or Wed/Friday/Sat

 6am-2pm Wed/Thurs/Friday

5am-10am Saturdays

 

The ideal candidate for this role should be enthusiastic, driven, efficient, very well disciplined in the kitchen. We are a fully plant-based vegan company, but classically trained in French pastry and looking for a baker with experience in a high-end restaurant, bakery, or patisserie setting with knowledge or interest in using seasonal/vegan ingredients. We are extremely committed to using the highest quality ingredients and sourcing all produce and grains locally. An interest in seasonality, organic farming, sustainability, and vegan baking would be great!

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Culinary School diploma + one year professional baking experience OR two years professional baking experience in a similar caliber restaurant or bakery. 

  •  High attention to detail 

  • Basic math skills 

  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail

  • Ability to initiate problem solving

  • Ability to understand and implement standard and safe operating procedures in the kitchen

  • Ability to learn quickly and work with a sense of urgency 

Job Requirements:

  • Scaling and production of doughs, breads, cakes, custards, and garnishes for our market menu. Everything we sell is made from scratch. Each week and baked off fresh. 

  • Organizing mise en place for the week. 

  • Consolidate, rotate, organize, and clean kitchen and equipment. 

  • Prepare and package custom orders occasionally. 

  • Maintain a well-organized, stocked, efficient, clean and safe working environment.

  • Effectively communicate with the chef/owner. This position will be working in tandem with the chef/owner on a daily basis so communication is extremely important. 

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

  • Establish priorities based on the kitchen's needs.

  • Flexibility- We are a small, new company so a willingness and respect for things changing and evolving as we grow will be key to success in this role.  

Pay:

$17-$19/hr starting pay + 1 week paid sick days annually. Wage reassessed at 1 & 3 months. Lots of room for growth!

Position: Farmers Market Lead  (Lake Oswego Farmers Market)

We are so excited to be joining the Lake Oswego Farmers Market this season and we are looking for someone enthusiastic, friendly, efficient, and committed to their Saturday shift with us to be our LO Market Lead. This position is every Saturday May 7th-Oct 1st from 7am-3pm (roughly), requires a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a reliable vehicle large enough to transport the market gear including tables, tent, and pastries (Wagon/hatchback/SUV).

 

Our Farmers Market Lead will be responsible for meeting us at our commercial kitchen at 7am, loading all the gear and pastries into their vehicle, driving to the LO market, setting up the booth, serving & engaging our customers, breaking down the equipment, loading in your vehicle, and driving back to the kitchen to unload the items. You’ll be in charge of greeting guests, handling cash/credit cards, assisting customers with their orders, educating customers on our products and philosophy, and filling boxes. This is a new market for us so you’ll be engaging lots of new customers so enthusiasm and interest in our mission will be key to success. 

Idea Candidate is:

  • Punctual, organized, and an early riser. 

  • Basic math skills 

  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail

  • Friendly, warm demeanor, enjoys engaging with customers

  • Experience in a customer facing role 

  • Experience in a fast-paced service role 

  • Interest and/or knowledge of desserts, baking, pastry arts is a plus!

  • Interest and or knowledge in organic farming, vegan food, and sustainability even better! 

  • Experience working at farmers markets is a huge plus! 

  • You do not have to be vegan to work for us by any means but respect for our vegan values is absolutely required 

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to stand on your feet outside for up to 8 hours. 

  • Clean driving record/valid driver's license 

  • Food handlers permit (must have one within 30 days of hire)

  • Saturday availability 

 

Pay:

$15/hr + tips (very good tips!), mileage/gas reimbursement & $20 each week in trade credit with other vendors! 

Tips average about 10% of our market sales so we expect will be about $100+ per market (more as the season progresses and we grow)
